If there is an attribute in DS that either doesn't exist, or exists with the same value X on any object. If the attribute also has no syntax, the index that is generated is empty. This causes searches to fail, as the indexed search takes precedence, and no results are returned.
We should warn or disallow indexing on attributes with no syntax defined in schema.
