#55 Fedora Documentation FAD
Closed: Fixed Opened by shaunm.

This ticket is to request funding for a Fedora documentation FAD, including downstream partners from RHEL and CentOS. See the wiki planning page:

https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/FAD_Documentation_2016

The current travel+lodging estimate is $2425. There is one potential attendee I haven't heard back from who may need up to $1600. Note that some attendees are able to use their own Red Hat travel budget and don't need FAD funding.

Ruth Suehle indicated FAD funding often includes funding for one evening social event. If so, I would request $400. If not, don't worry about it.

This is the first time I've gone through the FAD funding process. Please let me know if there's anything I've missed.

The FAD event is scheduled for beginning of May, around the availability of several participants. Could we have the Council please give us some feedback as soon as possible on this proposal? That way we can get fares purchased. Thanks!

To clarify the budget -- the potential attendee Shaun mentions is a tools person from Red Hat content services to work with the Docs community folks on tooling (including hackfest on Sunday, assuming things go well). This probably adds $2.2K to the budget. A bunch of us are traveling in cheap to make room for the two international fares, as well as contribution of e.g. dinner from outside the Fedora FAD budget. So the total cost here is probably close to $4.8K. If this is too high to approve, we can try to seek some other sort of cost split. But again, we need feedback ASAP to do that. Much appreciated, Council folks!

I am very supportive of this FAD; I think it is instrumental in reinvigorating this vital part of the project.

However, we're right in the middle of discussing this year's overall budget. I'm really sorry the budget came to us so late (more than a month into this FY!), but that's out of our hands. We have our next big meeting about the budget on Monday. Paul, Shaun, if we call for lazy consensus ending a week from now (needs at least three + votes and no -s), will that be soon enough, or would you consider it more urgent than that?

Thanks Matthew, and sorry for the last-minute planning on our side. Right now, we're three weeks out from when people would need to travel. Flight costs can fluctuate wildly this late. The delay doesn't affect my ability to attend. I'm guessing the same is true for Paul, Jared, and Zach, since they're coming by car. Pete told me the delay won't affect his ability to attend. Ryan and Silas are international, so they might be trickier.

Okay, so, I'm going to go ahead and call for lazy consensus by the end of the day on Monday, April 18. That gives all council members time to digest a little bit after the Monday budget meeting. We should at least have the attention of all council members... if anyone needs a little more (reasonable) amount of time, please ask for it. (Or, we can possibly get unanimous agreement before Monday.)

Robert already replied on the council list with a +1 to budget of $4800, and Remy with +1 to under $5000, and I'll add my +1 as well. That's sufficient to pass if there are no negative votes.

+1 I am also very in favor of the collaborative (multi-distro) nature of this FAD.

+1 for <= $4800.

This is approved. Thanks everyone.
