The path utils throws the following warning during configure:

configure: WARNING: Without the 'CHECK' libraries, you will be unable to run all tests in the 'make check' suite

This configure warning is benign. It means that on a system that doesn't have libcheck (or libcheck of a sufficient version), the unit tests will not all run, since this library is a pre-requisite.
