#69 Fedora 29 Release Party @ Linux Autumn, Ustroń, Poland
Closed: Fixed Opened by rluzynski.

I would like to organize Fedora 29 Release Party during the Linux Autumn conference.

Date: 10 November 2018, late afternoon/evening.
Location: Recreation and Traning Center “Gwarek”, Ustroń, Poland.
Expected audience: 20–40 people, Linux users, both Fedora and other distros.

Funding request: I'm asking Fedora Community to fund only one thing: the cake. I guess the price will be about 200 PLN (50 EUR). (Yes, I'd like the cake to be that large.)
Additionally: If Fedora Community requires any swag and/or gadgets (e.g., stickers) to be present and given to the attendees during the event then it must be also funded and delivered to the event.

I'm not asking to fund things like the venue, accommodation, travel tickets for attendees because those things are already funded by other sponsors.

Since I've never organized any Fedora Release Party I need some assistance:

  • Is it OK to organize Fedora Release Party during a paid conference?
  • Are we obliged to announce that although the conference is paid that part will be open to anyone and free of charge? (Note: I don't think there will be any people around willing to participate in Fedora Release Party but not already attending the conference.)
  • Do I need a permission to use the term “Fedora” and the logo, as they are registered trademarks? If yes then here I'm asking for this as well.
  • Is it too late to start organizing now?

I expect that some active Fedora users and contributors will be present at the party, including two Fedora Ambassadors. They are aware of my idea but not (yet!) involved. Unless anyone speaks up, assume that I am the sole organizer of that Fedora Release Party.

Hey @rluzynski :) Thanks for opening the ticket for F29 Release Party - Mindshare handles the budget tickets now and I suggest you open the ticket here https://pagure.io/mindshare/issues for approval.

Additionally: If Fedora Community requires any swag and/or gadgets (e.g., stickers) to be present and given to the attendees during the event then it must be also funded and delivered to the event.

You can open a swag ticket about this (again at Mindshare) and they will send the swag to you.

See my answers below, @bex please correct me if I'm wrong:

Is it OK to organize Fedora Release Party during a paid conference?

When you say paid conference you mean that people need to pay an entrance fee? We don't have any rules about it but I don't think this is a problem.

Are we obliged to announce that although the conference is paid that part will be open to anyone and free of charge? (Note: I don't think there will be any people around willing to participate in Fedora Release Party but not already attending the conference.)

You are not obligated to do that, but if you know someone that wants to attend the RP but will not be part of the conference I think would be great to make it clear that the event is free of charge and open to everyone.

Do I need a permission to use the term “Fedora” and the logo, as they are registered trademarks? If yes then here I'm asking for this as well.

You don't need a permission to use the term "Fedora" and here https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Logo/UsageGuidelines you have the logo guidelines that have the official brand and logo usage guidelines for Fedora.

Is it too late to start organizing now?

Of course no :) You are in time to start organizing it. If you need help let us know :D

I expect that some active Fedora users and contributors will be present at the party, including two Fedora Ambassadors. They are aware of my idea but not (yet!) involved. Unless anyone speaks up, assume that I am the sole organizer of that Fedora Release Party.

Yes.

I hoped so but I wanted to make sure.

Are we obliged to announce that although the conference is paid that part will be open to anyone and free of charge? (Note: I don't think there will be any people around willing to participate in Fedora Release Party but not already attending the conference.)

OK, so I announce here that those who want to participate in this Fedora Release Party but not in Linux Autumn should contact me or other organizers directly so we will arrange participation for additional people.

I'd like to keep this ticket open in case I have more questions appropriate to ask here.

Is there any official Fedora 29 Release Party poster design available for download, or any other similar kind of graphics?

@rluzynski I haven't seen one. Mind asking in Fedora Design? The badges are not yet ready yet either, so take a list of FAS ids if you want to have them done retroactively.

Done: https://pagure.io/design/issue/622. For this event it is already too late but I've opened the ticket for possible other similar events.

The badges are not yet ready yet either,

For the record:

  • Organizer badge: https://pagure.io/fedora-badges/issue/655
  • Attendee badge: https://pagure.io/fedora-badges/issue/656

Thank you @bex for filing these tickets.

so take a list of FAS ids if you want to have them done retroactively.

OK, understood.

Since the event has finished, I'm closing this ticket :)
