right now the boot partition size is 1G (25% of disk). Can we make it smaller?

Yes, it's already on my list to investigate why anaconda is giving such a large boot when auto partitioning is enabled on a small drive. Good to have a ticket to track it.

historically it was increased for fedup (or the other, similar tool) to have enough space for an extra kernel + initramfs for the upgrade. Maybe this is not needed with dnf system upgrade anymore.

@till IoT doesn't use dnf at all due to the use of rpm-ostree being exclusive

This also prevents using 4GB SD cards.

Closing, with UKIs and EFI capsule updates we sadly likely need this size.
