#266 Consider dropping xdg-desktop-portal-gnome from Fedora KDE spin by default
Closed: Fixed by siosm. Opened by pizzadude.

In my testing, since KDE 5.26, using OBS or screen sharing causes the KDE session to crash and restart (tested in Wayland), and removing xdg-desktop-portal-gnome fixes this.

I initially recommended adding xdg-desktop-portal-gnome to the KDE spin a year ago due to it being needed to fix ugly fonts in GTK apps in wayland ( https://pagure.io/fedora-kde/SIG/issue/120 ) but they have since added support for that back to xdg-desktop-portal-gtk.

We could test to see if removing xdg-desktop-portal-gnome doesn't cause any issues in GTK4 apps before removing it.

Please report the Plasma crash independently upstream.

Some change where made a while ago that should fix this:

See previous discussion in https://pagure.io/fedora-kde/SIG/issue/120.

So I'm re-opening this to talk about it again and re-consider it.

Go ahead and do it.

Note that some backends are still disabled and that may not work for us: https://src.fedoraproject.org/rpms/xdg-desktop-portal-gtk/blob/rawhide/f/xdg-desktop-portal-gtk.spec#_39

Blech. There's no winning, is there?

https://github.com/flatpak/xdg-desktop-portal-gtk/pull/350#issuecomment-939285317 apparently it should be safe now

As this is a comps change, this will only be applied directly to Fedora Kinoite. Otherwise it will apply for Fedora 38 for the KDE Spin so targeting that.

Once we remove that we'll have to make sure that gtk4 is still included in the default installation for the GTK settings KCM to work properly.

Will start with 38 and then backport to 37 if this works properly.
