I see that you are reading the proventester wiki notes. Please will you confirm that you also know how to use fedora-easy-karma, and that you know how to comment and add karma via the bodhi interface. In addition please confirm that you have been reading the recent discussions about what constitutes good testing and commenting with regard to adding karma to packages.

Once you have confirmed these then I will be happy to sponsor you.

For easy Karma and Bodhi etc. I have reviewed the following

The Bodhi wiki below

https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Bodhi

The easy-karma wiki below

https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Fedora_Easy_Karma

I did not see the discussion recently regarding good testing. If there is an online archive please refer me to it.

Obviously testing involves :

  1. Install and validation of proper startup.
  2. Exercise of basic functionality of product
  3. If possible validation fixed bugs do not persist in new version
  4. If any regression tests exist, perform them.
  5. Validate system reboot to ensure not problems in boot cycle have been introduced.

What exactly constitutes regression testing from a Fedora for a given product I am not clear on at all. If there is any good resources on that from a Fedora perspective please point me to them.

OK - on the use of bodhi can you tell me if you have already added any comments in recent times for specific packages at https://admin.fedoraproject.org/updates/ ? You can do so whether you are proventester or not.

You can of course use fedora-easy-karma even if you are not a proventester - have you tried yet?

On testing what I meant was that there was some concern that one or two proventesters were adding comments such as "works for me" but not saying whether any specific tests were done - it is important to confirm whether fixes listed and referred to in bugzilla references have been checked as fixed and if so then adding comments to that effect. Similarly if you test something specific in a new package and there is a bug or regression then it is important to mention it and even better to open a bug report and add its reference in the comments. That way developers and maintainers can act directly on the information since they will be keeping a close eye on feedback on their new package.

I hope that helps?

I was unaware I could add any comments/karma even though I was not a proventester so I had not even attempted to make any comments. If you prefer I will start doing them that way w/o proventester status instead.

I plan to work on the open items listed in the daily Fedora 16 testing report unless you have other suggestions.

Thanks.

That would be great - if you do a little testing and I see some of your comments looking sensible in bodhi then I will be happy to sponsor you.

I look forward to getting back to you before too long.

Given recent comments on Test-Announce stating that proven testers do not serve a purpose in validating testing beyond normal testers there does not seem to be a need to approve my application for that status.

Being new I was not aware of the historical dialouge on this topic. This ticket can be closed.

If you feel otherwise let me know.

OK I will close the ticket. Thank you for spending the time looking at testing though which will benefit both you and Fedora even without being a proventester.

This issue has been migrated to Fedora Forge:

Please continue any further discussion there.
