Over the past few weeks, we have discussed a number of possible improvements for Fedora 37. These include

  • Revisiting "Software Selection" options in Server Installation (#51)
  • Facilitated and improved support for Fedora Server Edition Vms (#53)
  • Include automatic notification of updates (dnf-automatic) (#54) (#65)

Time to make decisions

Proposal 1

Include a Fedora Server Edition VM disk image to our delivery mechanisms in order to facilitate and improve VM support

This would be the realization of our work project 3: Facilitated and improved support for Fedora Server Edition VMs (#53)

Goal
Deploy a VM with a complete set of Fedora Server Edition features, resembling a default bare-metal installation as close as possible under the technical conditions of a VM.
In particular, the system administrator of a VM should be able to perform all administrative actions possible in a VM, completely independently of the system administrator of the host. This includes

  • Administration of the firewall
  • Administration of the storage organization
  • User administration and permission
  • Network connection administration
  • Software administration and maintenance using the same tools as on the host
  • Everything else that is possible but not explicitly mentioned.
  • Not included are actions that are not technically possible, e.g. Raid configuration or changing the total disk space available for the VM.

Steps to perform

  • Creating a Change Request for Fedora 37
  • Amend the delivery mechanisms in the Product Requirement Document (PRD) (#83)

We have an RFE (https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=2054625) pending to include some additional packages to the full installation DVD. It was about F36, and we have postponed it to F37,

So, we really should act now.
