So, none of the Fedora flavors are really pushing ARM right now, and it's not Spins either. That kind of means it fell between the cracks... we don't want that to happen. ARM is an important effort in Fedora. How can we represent this better? (On getfedora or elsewhere?)
This is not an easyfix, I know. :)
We have put much effort into getfedora.org and it's the first step of rewriting our webpages. Actually http://spins.fedoraproject.org doesn't contain only spins, but also ARM and Docker. The plan is to rewrite this page for F22 and to have dedicated pages for each of them.
ARM is not thought to go on getfedora.org, for the same reason we don't put Spins there. The only thing we could do, and that's intended as a temporary solution until we will have F22, is to write a page similar as for [http://spins.fedoraproject.org/docker/ Docker] on spins.fp.o, dedicated to ARM.[[br]] We will be able not only to list all ARM images correctly, but also to put some text into it (ARM guys should provide it then) on how to set it up.
Does this work as a ''temporary-fix''?
Yeah, I think that's a good approach.
(And also I understand and am incredibly grateful for the getfedora.org work -- this wasn't meant to be a complaint.)
Cool. Then let's use this ticket to set up the page for all ARM images.
I propose to run this in our [http://spins.stg.fedoraproject.org staging instance] until we get all the text needed from ARM guys, and to help them to understand how it would look like. Maybe we can have a small and large banner for ARM too, to identify it easily on the main page.
ARM images are in the Image and Workstation tree, also we should have a server install tree (not an image).
hi, i wonder whether or not a page dedicated to ARM is really the right approach. i would like to understand better the context of the userbase that would want ARM - is there a particular flavor(s) of fedora they would be more likely to want to run vs other flavor(s)? how do folks running arm seek out OSes typically? is ARM similar to x86/x86_64 in that the hardware the userbase we're trying to capture has typically ships with OEM / preloaded OS, or are they typically coming to us baremetal? what are they trying to do with the ARM hardware? what kind of hardware are we targeting? plug computers? raspberry pis (there's a spin tailored for that)? etc
just to qualify - i'm speaking long term, not short-term!
I'm happy to help with this. We have existing documentation here:
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Architectures/ARM/F21/Installation
Previously that has been used to craft text for the website including a pointer for instructions.
I've setup a page with downloads, checksum and support info on http://spins.stg.fedoraproject.org. It should be easy to find directly from the main page, but it could be improved with better text content.
Please check it out and give us feedback before pushing it into production.
Thanks.
So this is in production in about 60 minutes from now. Also changed a bit our "there's more Fedora" text on the main getfedora.org page to be more clear.
Thanks to adamw, dgilmore and pwhalen for feedbacks. Please reopen if you still feel there is anything wrong.
