+1 to the change, but assuming it did already happen, please do wait for FESCo to approve the change in the future in case there are any objections to it to consider. I think there's probably no harm done in this case, just a consideration for next time.

I'm concerned that there was a serious nitpick on the devel discussion ("Please advertize the new sub-package name, binutils-gold, in a more prominent place, e.g. in the Summary.") and it goes unanswered. I'm concerned that this was done without change approval. The change itself seem fairly trivial and reasonable, so technically I'm +1, but It's a concerned +1 :(

Maybe I don't understand how gold is used but couldn't we just later drop it from binutils without taking this subpackage route?
