Hi FESCo members,
For this election there was x5 open seats, and x5 people have been nominated. I am happy to run the interviews for the 5 nominees anyway, but I did want to suggest skipping as the nominees are all existing FESCo members and will be automatically elected back in anyway.
Please let me know your preference. If you would like to skip I will just update the elections page to reflect this and announce the results early.
Thanks!
Yeah, I think we should skip the interviews. I think most people copy and adjust the previous answer anyway, and I don't think we have any major changes in the last year that'd warrant a new topic in the interviews. It'd be nice to link to the previous round of interviews though, in particular for people who are voting for the first time.
Have the rules on elections changed? In the past, we required 50% more applicants than available seats to hold one. On at least one occasion, we delayed the start of the election until that threshold was met.
I don't know if we've honored that rule for the past couple of years.
I thought the rule was 25%. Either way, I'm not sure this really does anything except make more work for us. The policy is we delay the election waiting for more nominations. If we still don't have enough, the election is held anyway and those candidates are voted back in.
We can't force people to run so is the delay really necessary?
On the topic of interviews, I'd like to propose video introductions in addition to the written Q&A pages.
https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/program_management/elections/ doesn't contain any rule about the number of applicants. And in various previous elections we had cases where there the number of candidates was equal to the number of seats:

I think this might be just the first time the FESCo election resulted in the same number of nominations as there are open seats, and when you add in the fact that the nominees are all the same folks whos term is ending, and they will be re-elected automatically, I thought it best to check in to see whether there is a need (or want) to run an interview series and voting when it wont really matter for the results.
My next steps will be to announce the results early if you folks are happy to just skip the interview and voting parts, just let me know your preference.
On the topic of interviews, I am a big +1 to @dcantrell 's suggestion of moving the format to a short video meeting. I am happy to make that change and add the transcripts as the printed version too. This is a great idea and one I would like to adopt for all elections.
fesco has it's own elections policy:

Well by this policy, there is enough nominations to fill vacant seats, but not enough to hold an election. Would you like to:

This was discussed during the meeting today: AGREED: Reopen nominations until Thursday 2024-12-05 and announce the reopening. The voting will start on Friday 2024-12-06.
