#3510 Change: NTSYNC-Contained
Closed: Accepted by fale. Opened by alking.

This proposal aims to enable the NTSYNC kernel module for select packages by package recommendation (Recommends/Suggests), which can improve compatibility and performance when running Windows applications (especially games) via Wine/Proton. This change supersedes the previous change: https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Changes/NTSYNC .

Owners, do not implement this work until the FESCo vote has explicitly ended.
The Fedora Program Manager will create a tracking bug in Bugzilla for this Change, which is your indication to proceed. See the FESCo ticket policy and the Changes policy for more information.

REMINDER: This ticket is for FESCo members to vote on the proposal. Further discussion should happen in the Discourse discussion linked above. Additional discussion may happen on the Fedora Devel mailing list.

This was discussed at some point in on of the threads, but I don't recall seing a resolution…
The name wine-ntsync is misleading, because the subpackage is not tied to wine in any particular way. It'd be great to rename this to something generic, like ntsync-autoload.

+1 otherwise

Oh, and in the summary:
s/This proposal aims to enable/Enable/

(Please remember that the Summary will be read by people after the change has been approved and implemented. Direct language is better.)

Hi, thanks for the notice. I will adjust the summary accordingly if the FESCo vote passes. Thanks.

Regarding the package name, I'll contact the package mantainer about that.

New package name: ntsync-autoload

I don't care what it is called. I'll get a wine update ready.

ACCEPTED (+6, 0, -0)

Per FESCo's request, I have changed the Summary (and also the Release Notes) a bit:

Thanks for the approval.
