= Full Name =
Matthew James Booth (FAS: mbooth) fedora@matbooth.co.uk
My original sponsor was Andrew Overholt (FAS: overholt)
= Qualifications =
I was initially sponsored by Andrew for [https://www.redhat.com/archives/fedora-devel-java-list/2008-April/msg00003.html submitting a patch] for the eclipse package and for [https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=426884 packaging eclipse-epic].
Since then I have built up a pretty good working knowledge of packaging Java applications and libraries and if you look the [https://admin.fedoraproject.org/pkgdb/users/packages/mbooth list of packages I maintain] in pkgdb you can see that I now maintain some fairly fundamental Java packages, including xerces and xml-commons and some widely used Eclipse plug-ins, including eclipse-emf and eclipse-gef. See also a sample of the reviews I have performed: [https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=506431 eclipse-texlipse], [https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=515136 gettext-commons], [https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=542320 plexus-lang]. I think that last one especially shows my diligence -- we didn't include it in Fedora in the end.
Additionally, for my sins as a knowledgeable Fedora Java community member, I was recently invited by James Laska (FAS: jlaska) to take part in the up-coming [https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/AutoQA_Packaging_FAD AutoQA Packaging FAD] in order to get autotest's tree of Java dependencies packaged and reviewed.
It might also be worth noting that I work with another Fedora Java community member Alexander Kutakov (FAS: akurtakov) on [https://sourceforge.net/apps/trac/shelled/wiki an upstream project].
= Rationale =
I would like to be able to sponsor new contributors who submit Java packages (that's where my expertise lie) so that we can continue to grow Fedora's Java eco-system.
Initially, I would like to sponsor Alexander Boström for packaging java-gnome. Please see the [https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=551587 review request] for more information.
= Additional =
PS. I apologise for name-dropping. I don't normally approve of that sort of behaviour, but one has to sell one's self, right? :-)
Sent to packager sponsors for feedback before the next meeting.
This was approved at the 2010-03-23 meeting.
Congrats.
