Package Name: samba FAS Name of maintainer: gd
Reason for requesting a updates process exception: package rebase for security update (as in samba every security fix gets a new release), see http://www.samba.org/samba/history/samba-3.5.7.html and http://www.samba.org/samba/security/CVE-2011-0719.
Currently the packages containing the security fix are pending to go into updates-testing (samba-3.5.7-73.fc14 and samba-3.5.7-73.fc13)
Looks like 3.5.6 is currently available there and 3.5.7 just adds this security fix, so not sure why an exception is needed.
Are there any other incompatible or user experence changes between 3.5.6 and 3.5.7? If it's just the security fix, there shouldn't be a need for the exception. Only in the event it's pulling in user visible changes or incompatible upgrades. ;)
I am just trying to avoid the karma collection in updates-testing and all the delay related to that. Instead I want to bring the security fix to the customers/users ASAP (like we did in the past with security fixes). So I thought getting an exception for the rebase would speed up the process. Looks like there is no way around going via updates-testing then ?
Ah, I see.
Yeah, I would suggest mailing the test list and seeing if you can get some testers. If it can get karma before the next push it can go direct to stable.
3.5.8-74 is in stable updates now.
Sorry this dropped off the radar.
