#987 General Fedora Improvements wiki proposal
Closed Opened by tradej.

I propose to have a wiki page for general contribution ideas, easy fixes etc. that would accumulate concrete user ideas on how Fedora can be improved. The page could look something like this:

https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/User:Tradej/FedoraImprovements

It would be a nice place for newcomers with a will to fix things to take off, as well as a general tracker for stuff that is deemed doable, but currently there's nobody to do it. It could very well be done in Bugzilla, but I think that from the newcomer's perspective, a wiki is more user-friendly.

I could maintain this page, should there be an official will to have it.

This seems like is has some overlap with: http://fedoraproject.org/easyfix/

Would that meet your needs somewhat? Or are their parts that wouldn't be covered by that?

This certainly covers the part of easyfixes, but on my page, there are some things that certainly don't fall into that category - for example policy changes, guidelines suggestions etc. I am sure there are ways to file such suggestions today, but I (and not only I) would like to see a more systematic approach to basic Fedora improvement.

I'm still not fully clear on the idea... ;)

Who would be adding things to the page/container? Just anyone? I fear we would run into someone adding an inpractical or bad idea, someone new working hard on it only to to told "no, we don't want to do that", which would be very demotivating. ;(

Or would this be things that have gotten a "ok, thats good" from fesco first?

If so, it's kinda now sounding like Fedora Engineering Services from a while back. A place fesco could ask for things to be done and interested folks could step up and do them. ;)

Ah, I did not know of the existence of such an initiative. That makes my request redundant as it stands. However, I do believe though that FES doesn't get enough promotion and/or its goals aren't very easy to find. I would suggest incorporating info about them on the Join page, main Wiki page and the like, because none of the people I asked knew what FES is about and that general (but concrete) improvement ideas should be submitted to FESCo, to be possibly forwarded to FES.

Yes, it would be good to make the page more visible. It would be nice to have it on 'Join us' page. Could we file it as request somewhere?

Well, one of the reasons FES doesn't get much notice or press is that we don't have anyone leading/directing it, so it's pretty much in a defunct state. I'd not want to point people at it if it's not active.

Would you be interested in reviving it? I think it was a good initiatve when it was running... :)

@tradej are you interested in reviving FES? If not, I suggest we close this ticket. Someone who does have the time to revive FES can open a new ticket (or simply start working on making it active again).

I guess we can let it go for now, I'm quite busy with school and whatnot. If my schedule frees, I can take up FES without this ticket anyway. Closing as wontfix.
