Abstract

Join this three-part tutorial to learn more about how the Fedora D&I Team manages our documentation. This 25 minute tutorial will cover the following topics:

  • Presentation: How the D&I docs are structured, what kinds of things we currently published, other docs efforts from over the years
  • Screen share: How to edit D&I docs from the Pagure web interface
  • Screen share: How to edit D&I docs in command line, build a local preview, and test changes

The goal of this session is to help others understand how our docs are structured and organized, and empower others to propose new changes and improvements to our docs.

Do you think this would be useful for non-D&I teams for improving their own docs and doc processes?

@jflory7 Could it be re-framed as "Shadow Session: One way to organize Docs and how to edit them" and then you use the D&I docs for the session?

I'm open to making this more general, but to be clear, I am targeting a specific need in the D&I Team to help train up others to edit and maintain our docs. Right now, it is mostly me maintaining them, and I am trying to reduce bus factor on me.

That said, I think my specific need is compatible with @riecatnor's reframing.

Hi, if we can fit this in at a time that works for you with no conflicts, we can get it on the schedule. Please take a look at the schedule as it stands and advise a slot if you would like to go ahead with this session. The timezone used for the attached schedule is EST. Thanks!

Hi @riecatnor, could I request Saturday, 8 August @ 12:00 UTC (08:00 EDT)? I am presenting from America/New_York, but several attendees for this shadow session will be in APAC and EMEA. This is a friendlier time for eastern time zones.

Ping, I did not see this talk in the Hopin schedule. My requested slot would runs up against a sponsor social. I think it is okay for the following reasons:

  • I am not expecting an audience greater than 10 people.
  • The most value is generated from future sharing of the session recording to new contributors (to have both our conference session and new docs for newcomers at the same time).

@riecatnor, let me know if you need more info! Thanks for your time

@jflory7 this session should now be all set :)

Hi! Nest with Fedora is beginning shortly. I want to thank you for speaking at this years contributor conference, your time and effort is appreciated :)

I have outlined the basic process for speakers below. If you have questions, feel free to drop them here and I will do my best to answer them before the event begins.

How to get to your session:
Enter the event
Go to Sessions tab on the left at the correct time
Click your session
Accept permissions for audio/video
You're in!

Sessions are set up as moderated by the speakers. There is a maximum of 10 people on screen at once, though people can leave the screen and different attendees can request permission to join. The speaker(moderator) will have a moderation panel on the bottom left hand side to allow or deny the request. If you feel you need someone besides yourself to help with moderation, please make sure they are registered for the event and provide their full name here. Anyone can watch and participate in the chat. Sessions will be recorded.

To share slides, there is an option at the bottom to share your screen, where you can choose the window/tab to share. To share a video with audio, you can share your screen and play the audio on loud speaker (so your mic picks it up). Screen sharing works just as other video conferencing tools (like Google Meet, Bluejeans etc).

If you have technical issues during your session, contact one of the attendees labelled "Organiser" or myself, Marie Nordin, through the platforms direct message function.

Cheers!
