My submission for Nest with Fedora 2022
Well, I really had to work up some courage to face this ticket because my English is intermediate. But I will accept the challenge, this will be good for both my practice, as the approach to such issues (questions). This is relevant for my community.
Wow! So I opened my ticket at the last minute, July 8th.
Here go..
=What is your proposal? =
The international legislation is increasingly turning to user privacy, especially online. So it would be interesting, given the principle of transparency express in all these legislations, that our community starts to publicly demonstrate how we are dealing with this.
Are we in compliance here?
What are the legal implications of not being in compliance?
Also about how big techs are getting fines for personal data breach, Facebook, Amazon etc. And as an open community we need to protect ourselves.
I don't say this for cyber security as Red Hat containers are an innovative technology that is resistant to cyber attacks, but I speak of legal issues in the simple fact that we don't collect a new member's consent when they first log in.
I speak of the lack of a "term use" or an clear and simple "data protection policy" at the first moment of contact with web site and your registration.
Oh yes, this is serious stuff.
It takes someone who will kick start and provoke this questioning. And this is my proposal.
"The devil lives on the details", and the simply choosing the wrong "legal base" can result in a hefty fine of hundreds of dollars. Or worse than money, affect our online reputation.
Then, do you know what a "legal base" is?
=Which format to follow? =
I chose Social Sessions (25 minutes or less) but then lightning is the best option, because I should approach it somewhat superficially, without delving too deeply into the subject, but also exposing all the relevance of such issues in the face of new legislation. (GDPR, LGPD, CCPA, HIPAA, COPPA)
=Who are you? =
Name: Alexsander Carvalho FAS ID: carvalhoalexsander Timezone: Centro, Conselheiro Lafaiete - MG (GMT-3) Availability: August 6th 5 minute Lightning talk pre-recorded
My wiki this https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/User:Carvalhoalexsander
5 minute Lightning talk pre-recorded is a cool because you can send me your questions and I will answer them more easy
Doubt, if I go beyond 5 minutes on my Lightning talk pre-recorded will there be problems? Maybe 10 minutes, please :clock830:
Update: Another suggestion I had thinking about the night would be, since I'm going to do a 5-minute lightning presentation, why not two call lightning presentation? Or maybe some calls that would be used by you in the interval of others? I'm really starting to like this
I solicit and consider your feedback about this.
+1 from me - this is an important topic to talk about it - privacy on Fedora Linux is an ongoing discussion
v/r Andi/andilunux
Hi Andi, I'm happy for your feedback and also for your enrollment in the course I recommended on privacyOps.
Good luck and tell me bro
To be clear: are you talking about the privacy and data protection of the operating system itself or of the tooling we use in the community to build it and communicate with each other?
In either case, I'm concerned that a lightning talk won't be sufficient to cover the topic. Especially since most contributors don't know about the relevant laws (even if they think they do)
Hi @bcotton , thanks for your feedback.
At first I thought about our platform, forums and such.. An approach to the OS would have to be researched with the development team for more details, and what details could be made public. A lot of cloth to send in a short time.
It would be an simple approach, didatic...
Not to how we do it, but to how important it is to think about it.
Hello, @bcotton I posted my resume online.
Would you like to check it out?

At this time, your proposed session is under consideration for this year's Nest with Fedora event. The CfP review team have the following comments/suggestions to help improve your proposal, or make it more suitable for the audience we expect at Nest this year.
Please provide feedback based on these comments. We want to give everyone who submitted a proposal the opportunity to present at Nest if the content fits and there is still room in the schedule. Feel free to respond on this ticket.
If you have further questions or need assistance feel free to email mnordin (at) redhat (dot) com. Thanks again for your proposal!
No matter if your proposal is accepted or not, we hope you join Nest this year. Register here: https://hopin.com/events/nest-with-fedora-2022/registration
Hi @riecatnor, thanks for the feedback from the CfP review team
Countries worldwide are increasingly acknowledging the need for data privacy within the general framework of human rights. More than 120 countries have data privacy regulations in place, and most countries have drafted their laws based on the framework set up by the European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). Privacy is a fundamental human right in GDPR.
At this point, it would be important to highlight that not only companies process data. Therefore, the law is not limited only to them, but also to individuals as a self-employed realtor.
Okay, and how does this relate to Fedora project?
We are not a realtor we are not selling anything here.
R.: Alright, but there's data processing from the moment a new member registers. Because he uses his personal name among other data even if the law does not have them in his list. Example: your geolocation is one personal data, your IP address is one personal data.
But in addition, paying attention to such issues is very interesting for the Fedora Project, as the DPO of "Mercado Livre Company" (https://www.mercadolivre.com.br/) said in a master class "The objective of the privacy policy is to generate value with the responsible use of personal data, respecting the citizen at maintain confidence in the company(...) ".
This demonstrates that publicly demonstrating our respect for members' personal data has a return, in the form of values to the project.
What values would these be?
R.: Credibility, trust and much more..
Let's go to example of lack of compliance known in our environment?
Linux counter (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Linux_Counter) was a free project that aimed to count the number of linux users around the world. Wow and that was a lot of us... But someone left the contact list open, and a smart ass at Microsoft misused this data to spam thousands of us with Windows offers! The platform closed and Linux Today reported how Microsoft Austria used the site for spamming Linux users.
But what would the current legal implications be if this happens here in our community?
Heavy fines, suspension of the database and even its blocking in order to forbid us to register any future members and those already involved in the project.
Not to mention the Project's online reputation, we would become famous as privacy violators.
I also think, I think maybe two or three short calls of 5 minutes each during breaks in the event.
Yes it is, I have it all on my mind. But maybe putting it down on paper and requesting an audition of the content would be nice.
Yes, as I said, maybe two or three short videos each covering a point of difference around the subject.
But the opening for questions I would prefer by email if possible.
Maybe @andilinux can help me with that too, he's a legitimate Star Wars padawan! :D
Hi @carvalhoalexsander
I can help u out with pre-recording, if u want :) Btw thx for the compliment hehe :D
v/r Andi
Yeh!!! \m/
Me too bro, we are a Fedora team
Hi @carvalhoalexsander thank you for your responses and enthusiasm! What do you think about creating this content, collaborating with some editors, and then presenting it at a future Release Party, Council Video Session, or on Fedora's YouTube channel? Or even at next year's Nest/Flock? If you are interested in pursuing that, please open a discussion.fpo post. There you can work with others on the content, gather feedback, and get it published to one of the venues I mentioned above.
Unfortunately, your session has not been accepted for Nest with Fedora 2022 due to keeping our session load moderate to promote interaction and reduce virtual fatigue. Thanks again for your submission and we invite you to please submit again for future Fedora events. And we look forward to seeing you at Nest!

Metadata Update from @riecatnor: - Issue close_status updated to: Talk Not Scheduled - Issue status updated to: Closed (was: Open)
Nice @riecatnor !
No problem, I'm really interested in contributing and that's what I do. I liked the suggestion by the Fedora YouTube channel, if possible.
And don't worry about my party registration, I'm already in :D
Let's study together how best to plan this.
This opening for us to debate privacy, even if it's not at Nest 2022, is amazing.
I thank :D
