    • Community and volunteer involvement in Fedora's infrastructure is vital to the continued success of Fedora as a whole. This talk will provide an overview of how the community/onboarding aspect of Fedora's infrastructure has changed over time, places we have gone wrong, and plans in progress to improve the situation. I will discuss ideas on how to revamp our "FI Apprentice" program to maximize community involvement and engagement. This talk is aimed for both newcomers and veterans - anyone with an interest in the critical role that the community has on Fedora Infrastructure and Fedora as a whole.

@codeblock The CfP Committee is generally in favor of this talk, however they'd like to know how the audience at Flock relates to it. Do you think Flock will have enough people who are not already familiar with this content to make it make sense? Is your goal in presenting this content something slightly different?

however they'd like to know how the audience at Flock relates to it.

I am interested in revamping our processes for onboarding/apprenticeship to make it easier and more rewarding for newcomers to get (and stay) involved. I have a fair number of ideas and have been working with others on the team to try and flesh them out and come up with a plan to put them in action. The goal of the talk would be to share these ideas with the community and to talk about lessons learned from what we've done already.

The talk would target both those who are members of the Fedora community thinking about specifically joining the Infrastructure team, and those who are already contributors to the team who want to help newcomers join.

Those in the first camp would learn about ongoing efforts to make their journey easier. Of course volunteers are vital to the team, so we want to make the barrier to entry as low as possible.

Those in the second camp can help newcomers in the future by being familiar with the process for getting involved. This promotes community-helping-community.

Do you think Flock will have enough people who are not already familiar with this content to make it make sense? Is your goal in presenting this content something slightly different?

I have a lot of ideas that are different from how things work today, that I really think will help to promote contribution to the team. You are right that many people will be familiar with how things work now, but I'd like to focus on "next steps" for a fair portion of the talk -- things we can do to get people wanting to continue contributing once they show interest.

Does this clarify?
