Is something blocking this PR from being merged? I'm currently experiencing this issue on NixOS (which has FORTIFY_SOURCE enabled by default), and could apply this patch or disable FORTIFY_SOURCE for numad in nixpkgs, but it would of course be easier to just update the package.
