A simple empty commit like git commit --allow-empty -m 'Rebuilt for new OpenSSL' is needed to rebuild Fedora packages that use %autorelease -- however Pagure does not allow me to create a pull request with empty commits.
git commit --allow-empty -m 'Rebuilt for new OpenSSL'
%autorelease
Similarly, some merge commits may appear empty and Pagure won't let me create the pull request either (e.g. a PR from https://src.fedoraproject.org/rpms/python-pathspec/c/204c8a976314b6709b1be5d7a14b413dc71c93f5?branch=rawhide to https://src.fedoraproject.org/rpms/python-pathspec/c/34c69edf64b638d199da3a26ee6d7aa5af0a4ced?branch=rawhide)
More and more packages use %autorelease now and the inability to open PRs with empty commits is blocking me. I've sent several git-formatted emails instead to the package maintainers, but it does not scale.
Hello folks. This is getting more annoying every day. Could you please prioritize this issue or at least respond?
@wombelix FYI
See also https://lists.fedoraproject.org/archives/list/devel@lists.fedoraproject.org/thread/AHCOIQLI5IVTUOP4J6GPM5TT3DPSWNCO/ where another packager is hit by this.
As a work around, one can add a dummy commit, which changes a file (e.g. add an empty file), open the PR, and then git reset HEAD^ && git push -f. This is does not work when the branch cannot be force pushed to.
git reset HEAD^ && git push -f
Proposed fix: https://pagure.io/pagure/pull-request/5501
An easier workaround is to just change the html to remove the 'disabled' keyword from the button, e.g. by pressing F12 in firefox.
