This is very much up for review/debate. I believe some aspect of this could be beneficial while other may not be (especially the loop in the second commit here that tries get the size of the diff).

Should this be MAX_FILE_UI?

It looks ok to me, but I would recommend tests. LGTM.

I am going to drop this PR for now, we can reconsider it later but for the moment the change in code highlighting seems to be sufficient.
